INTO HISTORY” |
Imagine
ancient Peru as your family's private outdoor
playground. Together, you'll participate
on an ancient archeological dig for treasured
artifacts in San Jose de Moro, one of the
most prolific pre-Columbian cemeteries
on Peru's remote North coast near Chiclayo
and Truhillo.
Dr.
Luis Jaime Castillo leads family archeological
digs in the field where his site, San Jose
De Moro, is located. He will instruct participants
on laboratory study technique and documentation
of their discoveries. Families learn more
of Peru's indigenous people's culture alive
today through private visits to artists'
communities, schools and music centers.
And, to balance education with vacation,
there's plenty of fresh air and family
fun such as picnics and hikes.

This personalized tour provides engaging
educational and entertainment experiences
for parents and children age 8 and older.
Children's programs supervised by youth educators
and trained guides are kid-focused and fun.
On site they will be divided into age-appropriate
groups. Archeological students from the esteemed
universities of Cambridge, Harvard, Bordeaux
and Sevilla Universities that Dr. Castillo
has collaborated with on Moche Period explorations,
assist him in leading youth activities. Adult
programming includes lectures and exclusive
cultural exchanges. You'll dine with his
team, visit ancient Inca homes, discover
Cuzco school of art on a walking safari,
explore private museums, meet textile and
pottery artists in their studios and visit
the world renowned archaeological site of
Machu Picchu. |

| ABOUT
DR. LUIS JAIME CASTILLO BUTTERS |
Professor of archaeology at the Catholic
University, in Lima, Peru, Dr. Castillo is one of the
most important Moche archaeologists in the world and
one of the most prominent researchers in Peru. The
entire span of his professional career has been devoted
to the study of several aspects of this intriguing
ancient Pre-Columbian society, form its raise to its
end, form its material culture to its art, from its
wonderful temples to its most humble burials. Every
year his research takes him and a lively group of young
archaeologists form all over the world to the Jequetepeque
Valley, 700 km north of Lima, where he has been excavating
for the last 20 years in sites such as San Jose de
Moro or Cerro Chepén. His work has focused on
the formation of the first state level polities in
the New World and in the collapse of this civilization.
San Jose de Moro, were Professor Castillo has his research
base, is the most prolific Moche cemetery yielding,
season after season, some of the most incredible ancient
burials. Out of his more than 70 academic publications,
his contribution to the Handbook of South American
Archaeology on the Moche (Praeger, 2008) sets
the state of the art in the study of this discipline.
Professor Castillo was educated at the Catholic University
in Lima, and the University of California, Los Angeles
where he completed his Doctoral studies under Dr. Christopher
B. Donnan. He has been a visiting professor in universities
in Seville, Bordeaux, and Mexico, and is regularly
invited as a distinguished lecturer to several American
universities. |
