DR. LUIS JAIME CASTILLO BUTTERS |

Dr. Luis Jaime Castillo Is one of the most
important Moche archaeologists in the world and
one of the most prominent researchers in Peru.
The entire span of his professional career has
been devoted to the study of several aspects
of this intriguing ancient Pre-Columbian society;
from its rise to its end, its material culture
to its art, its wonderful temples to its most
humble burials. Every year his research takes
him and a lively group of young archaeologists
form all over the world to San Jose de Moro where
he has excavated for the last 20 years. San Jose
de Moro, his research base, is the most prolific
Moche cemetery yielding, some of the most incredible
ancient burials. Out of his more than 70 academic
publications, his contribution to the Handbook
of South American Archaeology on “The
Moche” sets the state of
the art in the study of this discipline.
Professor Castillo completed his doctoral studies
at U.C.L.A. under Dr. Christopher B. Donnan.
He has been a visiting professor in universities
in Seville, Bordeaux, and Mexico, and is regularly
invited as a distinguished lecturer to several
American universities. Jaime has hosted Journey’s
travelers for over 12 years to rave reviews.
